Bargain Hunter: Top 20 Premier League Free Transfers For The 2013/14 Season

A whole host of players are available to be signed with their contracts running out this summer.

Andrey Arshavin

The Arsenal forward will leave the Emirates this summer after a difficult spell at the north London club following his £14.5m signing from Russian side Zenit St Petersburg in 2009.

Four goals against Liverpool in a Premier League match was a high point but only 11 appearances this season is definitely a low.

Looks like the 32-year-old is on his way back to Zenit, one of the only clubs prepared to pay his £90,000-a-week wages.

Yossi Benayoun

The Israeli joined Chelsea in 2010 for £6.2m but never really settled and has since had loan spells at  Arsenal and West Ham.

It was at the Hammers that Benayoun made his name so it wouldn’t be surprising if ‘Big Sam’ decided to bring the 33-year-old back.

Titus Bramble

The defender is well known in the Premier League after playing for Ipswich, Newcastle, Wigan and Sunderland.

The Di Canio era at the Stadium of Light has seen Bramble become surplus to requirements but despite a reputation as (ahem!) accident prone in defence, he certainly has the experience.

Chris Brunt

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Brunt has been a key man at the Hawthorns for some time since his £3.3m transfer from Sheffield Wednesday in 2007.

Last season the 28-year-old played 31 Premier League matches and provided seven assists – wouldn’t be bad on a free for a number of top flight clubs.

Carlton Cole

Once tipped for England stardom on the international stage, the now 29-year-old Cole may struggle to even find a Premier League side.

Two goals in 27 league matches will hardly endear the forward although one of the newly promoted teams may take a punt with the former Chelsea man.

Simon Davies

At 33 Davies has become something of the forgotten man of English football after being a regular starter with Tottenham, Everton and Fulham for a number of years.

The Welshman has finished his contract at Craven Cottage but could still probably give a couple more seasons in top flight football, although he is hugely injury-prone.

Richard Dunne

Despite not making an appearance for Aston Villa it wasn’t that long ago that Dunne was in the Premier League Team of the Year (OK it was 2010/11).

However, at 33-years-old there could still be some top tier clubs willing to give the Irishman another chance – if he can stay fit.

Paulo Ferreira

Possibly the most highly decorated bench-warmer in Premier League history has finally come to the end of his time at Chelsea.

Despite playing just seven games all season the Portuguese full-back has a Europa League medal… and a Champions League one from last year.

It’s easy to forget he did actually play for the Blues following a £17.6m transfer fee to FC Porto in 2004.

Maynor Figueroa

The defender is one of a handful of players at relegated Wigan who would probably warrant being snapped up by a Premier League side.

The Honduras international made 41 appearances for the Latics this season and at 30 he is in the peak of his career.

William Gallas

At 35-years-old it would be difficult for Gallas to argue that he could play for the very top sides anymore, but spells with Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham proves that he could once upon a time.

Unlikely to retire just yet but a spell abroad is probably the most likely option for the Frenchman.

Zoltan Gera

Is he at Fulham? is he at West Brom? Well the answer is neither now, but the Hungarian has played well at both clubs during his nine years in the Premier League.

However at 34 the attacking midfielder has possibly lost some of his sharpness although he did manage four top flight goals in 16 appearances in 2012/13.

Thomas Hitzlsperger

The German midfielder with the thunderbolt of a left boot has finally come to the end of his time at current club Everton.

At Villa he will most fondly be remembered for firing shots in from the edge of the area, although he has failed to do that so far this season.

Would still be a good signing considering Hitzlsperger is still only 31.

Florent Malouda

The forgotten man at Stamford Bridge will finally be able to end his year of misery when his contract runs out this summer.

Malouda has spent six years at Chelsea of which five he was a first team regular and one he wasn’t even on the bench.

A return to France looks the most likely.

Gary O’Neil

A player who quietly gets on with his business but is great to have in the squad, O’Neil could find himself receiving a number of offers from Premier League clubs.

The 30-year-old has had solid spells at Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and now West Ham and the Hammers may try and convince him to stay.

Jermaine Pennant

The winger was another linked with international success with the Three Lions and yet found himself loaned out to Championship side Wolves last season.

Stoke clearly don’t want the 30-year-old and he will be lucky to find a new Premier League club.

Mladen Petric

A solid start to the season for Fulham petered off slightly towards the end for the Croatian in 2012/13 and he may not get a new deal at Craven Cottage.

Five goals for the 32-year-old will have showed fellow investors that Petric is worth signing up though.

Danny Simpson

A Manchester United youth player who made his Premier League name at Newcastle, although seemed to be out of favour with manager Alan Pardew this season.

Simpson is still only 26-years-old and has enough talent to cut it in the top flight of English football.

Sebastien Squillaci

The Frenchman never quite lived up to the expectations of him when Arsene Wenger signed the defender or £5.7m back in 2010.

Squillaci’s season appearances have been limited to one in the Champions League and it’s highly unlikely the 32-year-old will want to stay in England – whilst Gunners fans will be glad to see the back of him.

Kolo Toure

If all is to be believed the Manchester City defender is on his way to Anfield to join Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool squad.

Toure has played at the very top level with Arsenal and City and the 32-year-old is a steal for the Reds.

(Liverpool has subsequently taken our advice and signed the experienced defender)

Ross Turnbull

The young Chelsea goalkeeper will finally get an opportunity to play first team football after being second fiddle to Petr Cech for so long.

Turnbull has failed to really impress at Stamford Bridge and may even face a move lower down the leagues if he wants the No.1 jersey.
