Carles Puyol will stay with Barcelona until the end of his career.
Carles Puyol has said that he never considered leaving Barcelona and wants to finish his career with the Catalan giants according to Sky Sports.
The defender began his career with Barcelona in 1999 after being a product of the clubs famed youth academy.
At the age of 35 injuries have started to take there toll on Puyol, restricting his appearances for the first team.
However, Puyol hopes to get past his current injury problems and play on for Barcelona until he is in his 40s.
On rumours about his future, Puyol said “To go to AC Milan was something I never thought about. But I did think that I might not be able to continue”.
“I would like to go to the end of my three-year contract and even extend if possible. I always said I wanted to play until I am 40, but what would please me is to retire from the game at Barcelona.”
A fully fit Puyol would make a huge difference at the heart of Barcelona’s defence. His prolonged absence was ruthlessly exposed by Bayern Munich in this seasons Champions League semi-final.
The centre-back is currently making his way back to fitness following a serious knee injury and he admits that more injuries could mean retirement.
“I doubt I could stand another season of injuries like the one I have just had”.
“If the problems continue next season I will have to quit. These things happen in football.”
