St James’ park side keen on Derby County teenager.
Newcastle United will look to head off interest from other prospective suitors with an early £10m bid for highly rated Derby County midfielder Will Hughes according to the Daily Mirror.
Alan Pardew will be more than aware that the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City are all keen on the 18 year old Rams star but will hope that an offer of this magnitude will convince the Championship side to sell the youngster sooner rather than later.
Hughes has greatly impressed since breaking into Nigel Clough’s first team set-up and racked up 36 starts in all competitions as Derby County secured a solid mid-table finish in 2012/13.
Pardew spent a fair amount on new additions in the last two transfer window but has been lambasted by some for his reliance on bringing in foreign talent, most notably for his forays into Ligue 1, and as such may feel that it’s a good move to look to buy British, knowing that doing so doesn’t come cheap.
£10m seems like more than a fair price for a player with a great deal of potential but with no top tier experience, but such is the inflated market for English based talent that such a move may not be successful, especially if a bidding war ensues for Hughes.
