Stamford Bridge manager looks to bring in a collection of quality additions this summer.
Returning Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has set his sights on five top talents as he sets about the task of making his Stamford Bridge side a genuine contender for Premier and Champions League glory.
The Daily Mail claims the 50 year old Portuguese manager has targeted five summer signings as part of his second spell at the West London club.
With the Chelsea attack perhaps the area in most need of attention Mourinho has set his sights on cultured Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic who has long been strongly linked with interest from Arsenal.
The 23 year old Montenegro international has been in fine form in Serie A over the past two seasons, scoring 27 goals in 58 starts, and could well be interested in a move to the Premier League having perhaps gone as far as he can with the Florence side he has represented for five seasons.
Such interest may well leave Fernando Torres, and perhaps even Demba Ba, considering their futures at Stamford Bridge.
This source does however believe Mourinho will recall Lukaku to the first team set-up and has no intentions of sending the Belgian youngster out on loan in 2013/14.
Jose Mourinho also believes his Chelsea defence could be greatly improved and has earmarked a move for highly-rated FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala.
Mourinho feels he could do with strengthening his defence as he believes Brazilian David Luiz is far better suited to a defensive midfield role and is known to be a keen admirer of the 22 year old, who is on the fringes of the French national team set-up.
Mangala is thought to have a €25m (£21m) release clause that Chelsea are willing to trigger this summer. The former Standard Liege centre-back was the focal point of a FC Porto defence that conceded just 14 goals in a 30 game Primeira Liga season.
John Terry may well be lined up to play something of a supporting role next term and there appears to be no new deal on the table for the England veteran, who’s current contract comes to an end in the summer of 2014.
With a view to adding more bite to his midfield Jose Mourinho has placed Brazilian Fernandinho on his list of summer targets.
The 27 year old is a strong tackler who can make bursting runs into opposition territory and is perhaps a who can ably act as a box to box performer for Chelsea.
Fernandinho has spent the last eight seasons with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donestk, collecting five domestic titles and a UEFA Cup triumph in the process.
The Brazilian international, who won his first cap in 2011, has impressed in recent Champions League campaign, perhaps becoming well known to English audiences following his displays against Chelsea this season, during which he netted and assisted in both encounters.
Jose Mourinho is also keen to bring in Roma battler Daniele De Rossi a player the Blues boss will know well from his time in Serie A with Inter Milan.
The 29 year old hasn’t had the best of seasons with his Olimpico Stadium side and the fact that Aurelio Andreazzoli’s side failed to secure any European football for next term could leave the experienced midfielder considering his options.
The Coppa Italia Cup Final defeat to Lazio will also have deeply hurt De Rossi and could see such a result as a sign that it’s time to leave the Giallorossi.
De Rossi has completed 13 seasons in the Roma first team but has very little to show for his efforts in tangible silverware terms. Indeed his side have secured five Serie A runners-up finishes as well as five Coppa Italia runners-up medals during his time at the club, though he has also collected two cup winners medals though the last of them came five years ago.
Man City forward Edin Dzeko is another name on Jose Mourinho’s wish-list as the Portuguese boss looks to bring in a consistent target-man to spearhead the Chelsea strike-force.
The 27 year old has proved himself more than capable of scoring regularly in the Premier League and though Roberto Mancini seemed against given the Bosnian forward a decent run of first team starts there is no doubting that when called upon Dzeko is in many ways an ideal forward for the English game.
The powerful forward was handed just 16 Premier League starts last season but still managed to net 14 goals, outscoring both Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez, both of whom started significantly more games that the former Wolfsburg man.
