Liverpool are set to complete a deal to sign highly rated attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan according to the Daily Mirror.

This source claims that a £20m move is on the cards and Liverpool are close to tying a deal to bring in the Shakhtar Donestk playmaker as Brendan Rodgers looks to improve his first team squad this summer.

The Armenian international has had a wonderful season with Shakhtar, scoring 29 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions and after three seasons at the Donbass Arena and five seasons in Ukraine as a whole, the 24 year old may feel this is an opportune time to make a high-profile move.

Rodgers is apparently keen to bring in a goal-scoring creative presence that can able link midfield and attack and may see Mkhitaryan as a long term replacement for Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool have already signed Man City defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer and are strongly linked with interest in Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas.

Brendan Rodgers has been given a guaranteed transfer budget of £35m and will look to offload a number of members of his first team squad in order to boost the kitty with Andy Carroll and Martin Skrtel linked with moves away from the Merseyside club.
