Vice President Adriano Gallani says that the Rossoneri were interested in Neymar before he moved to Barcelona.
AC Milan have said that they were interested in signing Brazilian striker Neymar before Barcelona made their move according Goal.com
Vice President Adriano Gallani admitted that the club were interested in Neymar but for financial reasons the club decided not to make a bid for the Santos striker.
“We could not make it happen. He was just too expensive. They [Barcelona] have double the budget we have. No Italian team could have afforded him,” said Gallani.
Neymar made his move to Barcelona last week with the Catalan club paying £48 million for the striker, with club officials admitting that they had to pay more for Neymar because of interest from other clubs.
Real Madrid, who are looking to add Gareth Bale to their ranks this summer, also had a bid accepted for Neymar and officials at Barcelona were worried that one of their main targets could sign for their arch rivals.
Neymar is set to form a partnership with Argentine Lionel Messi at Barcelona in what could be the most dangerous strike force in Europe.
Barcelona will look to bounce back from a 7-0 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
