Chelsea could be set to announce the capture of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani as a ‘gift’ to Jose Mourinho as the returning Blues boss prepares for his first official press conference since re-joining the West London club.

The Marca claim that owner Roman Abramovich may well be planning to announce the signing of the 26 year old Uruguayan as part of Mourinho’s official unveiling in front of the British media today.

Cavani has been strongly linked with a move to join the Europa League winners and with newly installed Napoli boss Rafa Benitez talking up the prospect of reuniting with striker Fernando Torres there is growing speculation that the Spanish international could move to the San Paolo as part of any deal to sign the Serie A striker.

Edinson Cavani has netted 104 goals in three seasons at Napoli but is widely expected to leave the club this summer with Chelsea being the favourites to sign the former Palermo forward.

The Marca state that it would cost Chelsea around €60m (£51m) to bring in Cavani but that with former Liverpool man Torres as part of the deal Abramovich would only have to fork out an additional €40m (£34m) to snap up the in-form Napoli marksman.
