The agent of Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has denied that his client is on his way to Fiorentina this summer, though he has confessed that his departure from the Alianz Arena is still likely, Sky Sports reports.

The 27-year-old missed much of the beginning of the season through injury but then struggled to gain his place back from Mario Mandzukic once he’d returned to full fitness and new boss Pepe Guardiola is expected to stick with the Croatian again, forcing Gomez to seek first team football elsewhere.

Fiorentina had been rumoured to be interested in landing his signature as they still prepare for the impending departure of Stevan Jovetic, though they face some strong competition from the likes of Juventus and Napoli in their own country and Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United in England.

Reports in Italy yesterday claimed that La Viola had won the race to land him, but the player’s agent, Uli Ferber, moved quickly to deny the story.

“That’s not true,” he said.

But when asked if Gomez would still be leaving Bayern, Ferber confirmed his imminent departure and claimed that his new club could be revealed in as little as 10 days time.

“It’s not going to be a major assignment (finding a new club),” he said.

“But one thing is for sure – he will only go to a club where he will be a first-choice striker.”
