Tottenham could compete with Premier League rivals Chelsea for a move to sign Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 29-year-old, who only just joined the Turkish club in January, is understood to be a target for Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who he played under in their time together at Inter Milan.

Sneijder became one of the best midfielders in the world under Mourinho’s guidance, and the pair celebrated a treble win with Inter in 2010, though his form has dipped significantly since then.

After falling out of favour at the San Siro, Sneijder moved to Galatasaray, but could be available for as little as £12million this summer, prompting Tottenham to also show an interest.

Andre Villas-Boas is on the lookout for new midfielders this summer after his side failed to clinch fourth place in the Premier League. He had targeted Joao Moutinho, though he opted for a big-money switch to French side Monaco.

Fredy Guardin of Inter Milan has also been linked, but Sneijder looks like being his current first choice, and the Dutchman would be the kind of big name signing to lift spirits at White Hart Lane.

Spurs could lose star player Gareth Bale to Real Madrid this summer, and will be hoping to persuade him to stay by showing their ambition in the transfer market.
