Dutch national team boss Louis Van Gaal have stated that he would like Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder to join Chelsea this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Turkish giants revealed yesterday that they would be prepared to listen to offers for the 29-year-old just six months after bringing him to the club.

Van Gaal believes a reunion for Sneijder with his former Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho would be get the best out of him, and he admitted that he wouldn’t have to travel so far to see him as London is much closer to his house than Istanbul is.

“It would be much easier for me to keep an eye on his progress if he were to make the move to Chelsea,” he said.

“I could be at Chelsea within an hour from the Netherlands, and [new Chelsea manager Jose] Mourinho is a friend of mine.”

Sneijder spearheaded Inter Milan’s historic treble success of three years ago and is thought to be available for the knock down price of just £12.75 million.

Van Gaal recently stripped Sneijder of the national side’s captaincy but believes the player will bounce back once he overcomes his niggling injury problems once and for all.

“I had a good talk about it with Wesley and he’s dealing with the situation pretty well. I have no doubt that everybody will help him,” Van Gaal added.
