Anfield side set to snap up Black Cats keeper.
Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet according to the Sunderland Echo.
Brendan Rodgers is expected to welcome the Belgian to Anfield in a matter of ‘days’ having initially failed with an opening £6.5m bid for the Black Cats’ player of the season.
The 25 year old is considered one of Rodgers’ top summer targets and with interest from Arsenal in Mignolet fading Liverpool are seemingly set to welcome the talented custodian to the Merseyside club, leaving many to ponder what the future holds for current first choice keeper Pepe Reina.
Liverpool have upped their bid to £8m but appear willing to meet Sunderland’s £10m valuation, which would represent a decent profit on a player Steve Bruce signed for £2m just under three years ago.
Though Mignolet is contracted to Sunderland for two more years it seems the Stadium of Light side have opted to not stand in the keeper’s way as he looks to secure a high-profile move that could assist in his pursuit of a regular starting spot in the Belgian national team set-up.
Mignolet would be Liverpool’s third signing of what has already proven a busy summer after Brendan Rodgers successful captures of Kolo Toure and Iago Aspas.
