Blues will have to pay big for former player.
Chelsea have been told that they will have to pay Benfica £38million to re-sign Serbian playmaker Nemanja Matic this summer, according to the Daily Star.
The 24-year-old has become a star player for the Portuguese side since he left Chelsea in 2011 as part of the deal to bring David Luiz to Stamford Bridge.
His fine form has also attracted attention from Manchester United this summer, though they too are thought to have been quoted a big asking price, which has seen them pursue other targets.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho spoke just yesterday about the challenges of working within new Financial Fair Play rules, and may also feel Matic is now somewhat out of the club’s reach.
Mourinho has also been linked with big names such as Edinson Cavani and Hulk in his first summer back in charge of Chelsea, as he looks to make the Blues genuine title contenders again.
