Former Oldham Athletic boss will take charge of Doncaster Rovers following their promotion to the Championship from League One in 2012/13, after Brian Flynn moved to a director of football role at the club.
They will face a tricky-looking start to life in the Championship, opening the campaign at home to promotion hopefuls Blackpool, before taking on big names in Blackburn and Wigan.
The end to their season looks difficult, and they will likely have to beat the likes of Derby, Reading and Leicester, all teams aiming for the playoffs, to boost their hopes of avoiding relegation.
