St James’ Park owner wants out.
Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is ready to sell the club according to the Independent.
Ashley has been something of a divisive figure throughout his six year association with the North-East side and his recent appointment of Joe Kinnear as Newcastle United’s director football angered many.
The £267m Ashley will seek to recoup from any sale of the St James’ Park club is essentially seen as the figure that is owed to his Sports Direct company by Newcastle United.
Ashley paid £55m to buy the club from the Hall family back in 2007 and has struggled to win the support of the club’s fan-base and has frequently run the gauntlet of their hatred of the Toon Army.
A combined Newcastle supporters’ group meeting earlier this week issued a statement calling for the billionaire to “consider his position as owner of Newcastle United.”
