Martinez wants Japanese star on Merseyside.
New Everton boss Roberto Martinez is reportedly preparing a move for CSKA Moscow midfielder Keisuke Honda as interest in Marouane Fellaini continues to intensify, the Daily Mail reports.
The 27-year-old has been in good form for Japan during this summer’s confederations Cup and he is apparently on the watch list of Serie A giants AC Milan.
However, Martinez is preparing to go all out to land the flashy midfielder as speculation continues to grow over the future of Fellaini.
The Japanese star is out of contract with the Russian club at the end of the year and could be available for a cut price fee this summer. Earlier this week Honda reiterated his desire to move further west and play for a top European club.
“I don’t know where I’ll be taking the next step yet, but I know I’ve got a chance [to play for a big club]. I have until August so I’ll wait and see.
“If I go to a big club, I’ll become an infinitely better player. The improvement I’ll make then will be anything but minor.
“I’m the type to soak up everything and anything in my surroundings, and if I play with better players, I’ll get better. It’s how I’ve been able to get this far in my career.”
