Brighton and Hove Albion have offered a trial to Latvian international striker Deniss Rakels, according to Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old is currently on the books of Polish side Zag??bie Lubin, although he has spent the previous two seasons on loan at second division outfit GKS Katowice where his form in front of goal has caught the eye of the Seagulls.

He ended last season with 11 goals and he is now being given the opportunity to earn a deal with Brighton, if he manages to impress head coach Oscar Garcia.

He arrived in England this weekend and will be given a week to show what he can do and possibly feature in a friendly game.

“The offer that came up is satisfying for us and him, so we accepted the invitation from Brighton,” Lubin sporting director Pawel Wojtala confirmed.

“He will spend one week there, play a friendly and then they will decide.”

Brighton already have one Latvian in the side in the form of Vitalijs Maksimenko and Rakels would beef up the ranks should he join his compatriot on the south coast.

To date he has just the two international caps for the Latvian side he is expected to have a big future for his country.
