Jose Mourinho keen on signing Belgian youngster.
Chelsea are preparing to make a bid for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke according to Goal.com.
The Blues’ summer transfer strategy has somewhat been thrown into disarray after PSG beat them to the signing of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.
New Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was hopeful of persuading the Uruguayan striker to help spearhead his Chelsea attack but it now appears the Portuguese boss will have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.
Mourinho has reportedly identified Benteke as the man for the job as is ready to test Villa’s resolve with a bid in the region of £20 million.
Benteke enjoyed a highly impressive debut season for Villa last year, forcing the club’s record signing Darren Bent out of the first team.
Those performances did not go unnoticed and Chelsea are likely to face competition from Tottenham for the player’s signature.
Villa are desperate to hold on to the player though with manager Paul Lambert keen to build a team around the powerful Belgian.
But despite having previously expressed his commitment to the club, Benteke has revealed that he would be tempted by a move to a bigger club as he looks to establish himself in the Belgian national team ahead of next year’s World Cup finals tournament in Brazil.
