Magpies lead chase for tricky winger.
Newcastle United are now the bookies favourite to land Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair, according to Sky Sports.
The 24-year-old has failed to live up to expectations in Manchester following on from his £6.8 million move from Swansea City last summer and has been linked with a number of clubs including the Magpies, Everton and Aston Villa.
After impressing at the Liberty Stadium in 2011-12 he made the ill-advised move to City where he featured just 11 times last season and it is Newcastle who are rumoured to be closing in on his signature.
Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: “In a market which has previously seen very little money, we have taken a strong run of bets on Sinclair’s next club being Newcastle, prompting the price to plummet.
“With nothing apparent in the media domain on such a deal happening, we’re assuming the money is coming from those in the know, although it’s always difficult to tell during the season of speculation.”
If the move to Newcastle does go ahead then he will be joining his 11th club since turning professional in 2004 with Bristol Rovers. However, a move may have to wait as he is due in for surgery this summer to have a rib removed following a blood clot in his leg last month.
