Titus Bramble On Trial With West Ham

Experienced defender hopes to earn Upton Park contract.

Former Sunderland defender Titus Bramble is now on trial with West Ham United following his release earlier this month according to the Guardian.

The 31 year-old has been given a life line by the Hammers as he began training with the club last week. At the moment, they have no intention of giving Titus a contract, but if the English defender impresses during his brief spell training with West Ham then Sam Allardyce will ask his employers to offer the free agent a contract.

If Bramble does not receive an offer, it seems the former Newcastle man will return to his home town and join Ipswich [the Championship side with the two biggest away losses last season – both 6-0], to help them push for the play offs next season.

West Ham on the other hand are looking at potentially signing Bakary Sako from Npower League One new boys Wolves. Fulham are closest to sealing a deal for the £4million-rated Frenchman but an 11th hour bid from the Hammers or West Brom could result in an extended saga.

West Ham also have Estudiantes’ Colombian striker Duvan Zapata on the way after having a £6.7million bid accepted. They are now awaiting a work permit, before personal terms are finalised and a medical is scheduled.

The 22 year-old managed 14 goals in just 23 games for the Argentine club last season, which did not go unnoticed by Sam Allardyce who wishes to find a partner for Andy Carroll, after the departure of Carlton Cole and Rob Hall last month.
