Five ‘Mega-Transfers’ That Could Be Completed This Summer

Truly epic deals that could be come to fruition during the current transfer window.

Gonzalo Higuain – Arsenal

Arsenal’s signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain could be pivotal in their chase for the Top 4 this summer, breaking away from Tottenham. The Argentine striker is reportedly set to join for a club record fee of £25million this summer, as the Madrid club are looking to acquire Luis Suarez from Liverpool, with Higuain leaving to make room. The prolific forward would be ideal at Arsenal as it changes the league demographic, in terms of Arsenal becoming a real competitor for domestic titles. Without a legitimate world-class forward since the days of Thierry Henry at the club, Higuain’s addition would mean they have a reliable front man to put away chances created by their influential attacking midfield players, such as Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott.

Luis Suarez – Chelsea

The talismanic Liverpool frontman is expected to push through a move from the club this summer in search of more competitive football at Champions League level. Chelsea are reportedly interesting in signing the striker for £40million. The £50million man Fernando Torres has not worked out as expected and Chelsea want Suarez to lead their line going forward. There possibly isn’t a better fit in England for Suarez. Chelsea have the infrastructure in place to compete at a domestic and European level, and also incorporate the playing style he has adjusted to in England. Playing in a rotating 4231 forward, playing the channels and off the shoulder runs, Suarez would make the most of the intricate play the likes of Juan Mata and Eden Hazard are renowned for, the kind of consistent play he has yet to receive at Liverpool thus far in his career.

Edinson Cavani – PSG

The French giants have met the reported £55million release clause of the Uruguayan forward, who was also subject to Premier League interest from both Manchester clubs as well as Chelsea this summer. Paris Saint-German have been on the cusps of European contention for the past couple of seasons, following their large expenditure on players, including the likes of Javier Pastore and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Cavani is the calibre of striker required to part Ibrahimovic to take the French side to that next level. The 26-year old is almost the complete forward, with pace, strength and the finishing ability to rival even some of the world’s best. Manager Laurent Blanc feels that “Cavani and Ibra is a beautiful duet” as the players’ playing style suits one another. Should they sign Cavani, they would have the attacking firepower to rival the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona on the European stage.

Stevan Jovetic – Manchester City

Following the sale of Carlos Tevez with fellow striker Edin Dzeko rumoured to follow suit with an exit from the club this summer, Manchester City want to sign Stevan Jovetic with the aim that they overtake Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League title race. The Montenegrin is available for £25million this summer, and both City and Arsenal have expressed an interest in signing the Fiorentina man. Manchester City lost the league race last term because they lacked the attacking flair they expressed so vividly in 2011/12. Having already added Jesus Navas to interrogate full-backs on the right, Jovetic can easily slot in as a left-forward or the focal point of the attack, seeing Sergio Aguero playing a deeper role. His finishing prowess and versatility makes him ideal for their 4231 formation in place under new manager Manuel Pellegrini, this addition could put them over the edge.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Manchester United

The potential £80million addition of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United would certainly make United overwhelming favourites for the Premier League title next season, but puts them back into the top tier of European football, with the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Ronaldo is one of the few truly world class players in the modern game, possessing real game changing, season changing ability. Since leaving United for Madrid, Ronaldo has averaged close to a goal every game, which is a fantastic record, and would be a great addition at Old Trafford assuming Wayne Rooney is sold this summer. Ronaldo would fill in for Rooney, operating behind main man Robin van Persie in the United attack. His signing sends ripples around the continent, showing that United, under Moyes, are still able to compete with Europe’s best, and could regain the Champions League trophy next season.
