Chelsea Favourites to Land Man United Striker Wayne Rooney

United striker still keen to leave Old Trafford.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney remains determined to leave Old Trafford according to The Daily Star.

There has been constant speculation over recent months over Rooney’s future, with many suggesting he is disillusioned with life at the club.

Prior to his retirement, former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that Rooney had handed in his second transfer request in three years.

That was promptly denied by both club and player but it has been clear for some time that all is not well between Rooney and United.

It was hoped that the appointment of David Moyes has Fergie’s successor would smooth things over. Moyes and Rooney know each other after their time at Everton together.

But at Moyes’ first United press conference, it was clear that Moyes believed Rooney still wanted to leave the club.

Moyes has insisted Rooney is not for sale but United may be persuaded to cash in on the star if he insists he does not want to stay with the Premier League champions.

That could pave the way for a move to Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho known to be a long term admirer of Rooney. It is thought that the Stamford Bridge side are ready to test United’s resolve by offering a £25 million package for the striker, who is set to miss the next month of pre-season with a hamstring injury.
