Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is optimistic that the club will sign new strikers before the end of the summer transfer window, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Carlos Tevez recently moved to Italian Champions Juventus while City sold Mario Balotelli to AC Milan in January, meaning City only have Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko available up front.

City have been linked with moves for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic, with reports suggesting that deals for both front men are close and Pellegrini believes that while City are on tour, progress is being made at the Etihad on transfers.

He said: “We are working on new players that can arrive at Manchester City. We are not in a hurry to bring them now but we are clear that we need two or three more players. It’s important to have a very good squad”.

Reports suggest that City are close to sealing a £27 million deal for Jovetic, despite last minute interest from Manchester United while Negredo looks set to available for around £20 million.

The Sky Blues look set to sell Brazilian right back Maicon following a disappointing season for the player at the Eithad.

City signed Maicon for £3.5 million from Inter Milan last summer but the defender struggled at City and he looks set to move back to Italy with Roma bidding £4 million for the Brazilian.
