Stamford Bridge side sign highly rated teenager.
Chelsea have officially confirmed the signing of young Chilean left-back Cristian Cuevas.
The deal is said to have cost the West London club around £1.5m and the 18 year old wide-man has signed a five year deal.
Cuevas arrives from Rancagua based side O’Higgins and has been capped 12 times at Under 20 level and was part of the side that reached the quarter-finals of the Under 20 World Cup in Turkey earlier this month.
A statement on Chelsea’s official website reads;
“The 18-year-old has signed a contract until 2018. He came through the youth ranks at O’Higgins before breaking into the first team and playing in the top flight in Chile.
“At 5ft 7in tall he plays primarily as a left-back but can also operate as a left-winger.”
Cuevas represents the third signing of Jose Mourinho’s second spell at Stamford Bridge, following the captures of Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schurrle.
One would imagine that Cuevas would not be a firm part of Mourinho’s first team plans this season and could well be loaned out to get some much needed senior experience following his move to Europe.
