Chelsea set to give Mourinho full backing to sign Rooney.
Chelsea are set to give manager Jose Mourinho significant backing in the transfer market as he looks to secure the signature of Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney according to The Sun.
Rooney’s future at Old Trafford has been under speculation for some time after it became clear the England star was not happy with the reduced role he was being given by the club following the arrival of Robin Van Persie last summer.
Rooney was unhappy with former boss Sir Alex Ferguson’s team selections, believing that he should instead be given a far more prominent role.
Club officials had hoped that relations with Rooney would smooth over following the retirement of Ferguson, and the appointment of Rooney’s former mentor David Moyes as his successor, but the striker is reportedly unhappy with comments made by Moyes about Rooney not being an automatic starter.
Rooney believes he is at the peak of his abilities and is determined to secure a transfer to a club where he feels more appreciated.
Chelsea have made no secret of their desire to sign Rooney and the club now look set to give Mourinho a £30 million warchest in the hopes of securing his services.
Mourinho has made clear that Rooney is his only target for the summer and is ready to put all available resources towards bringing the player to Stamford Bridge.
