Japan star will instead remain with the top-flight champions next season.
Borussia Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp has admitted that the Bundesliga giants have now given up on re-signing Manchester United midfield player Shinji Kagawa this summer, according to reports in the the Daily Mail.
The twinkle-toed Japan international has only been at Old Trafford for one season now, having originally been brought to the north west by previous United head coach Sir Alex Ferguson last June in a deal worth £12 million.
However, the 24-year-old endured an up-and-down debut campaign with the Premier League giants last time out, starting the season strongly, before injury then interrupted his year.
In total Kagawa , who is the first Japanese player to ever play for the Red Devils, scored six goals in his 26 matches overall in all competitions for the club last time out, with all of those strikes arriving in his 20 Premier League outings as the club won the title.
But it had been rumoured in recent weeks that the playmaker was set for a shock return to his former club this summer after failing to settle in England.
That move, however, is not now going to happen after Dortmund boss Klopp confirmed: “It was clear relatively quickly, Shinji wants to prevail this year at Manchester United. I did not expect a different answer, you just have to ask once.”
