Catalans tried to lure Dane away from Anfield last summer too.
Liga champions FC Barcelona are set to reignite their interest in Liverpool defender Daniel Agger this summer after missing out on first-choice target David Luiz, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The Spanish giants have made the recruitment of a new centre back their top priority of the close-season transfer window following the injuries suffered by skipper Carles Puyol and his central-defensive partner Gerard Pique at the back last season.
However, it had been expected that the Catalans would sign Chelsea central defender Luiz, only for the Spaniards to be rebuffed in their approach for the coveted Brazil international.
And now Barca chiefs have given up all hope whatsoever of bringing Luiz to Camp Nou next season, instead switching their focus back to the Reds’ Denmark international instead.
Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers has already been forced to fend off one bid from Barcelona for Agger this time last year, with the 28-year-old instead agreeing a new bumper long-term contract to remain on Merseyside.
But that will not stop Barcelona from returning again in their efforts to prize the Dane, who has made 209 appearances for the club in all competitions, away from Anfield this summer.
