Benfica defender keen on Old Trafford switch.
Man United’s hopes of signing Benfica defender have been given a boost with Ezequiel Garay making it clear he wants to see a deal completed so he can make the move to Old Trafford according to Sports Direct News.
David Moyes is desperate to bring in a ‘Marquee’ signing and having failed with efforts to bring in Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas the Scot could well turn to the former Real Madrid man, the 26 year old already being subject to a £12.9m bid from the Premier League title holders.
Benfica however want £21.5 for the rock solid defender and they want the fee up front, and this could cause any move to stall.
With long running concerns about Nemanja Vidic’s long term fitness and Rio Ferdinand’s age there is certainly scope for a new central defensive addition, not least as it appears that Phil Jones is better suited to plying his role as a defensive midfielder.
Napoli are also keen on Garay and have funds to make a big offer having sold Edinson Cavani to PSG in a £55m deal.
Garay has done well to re-ignite his career having struggled to make an impact at the Bernabeu and last term his presence at the heart of the Benfica defence helped Jorge Jesus’s side to concede just 20 goals in 30 Primeira Liga fixtures.
