Emirates Stadium side look to strengthen defence.
Arsenal are set to make an offer for Anzhi Makhachkala centre-back Christopher Samba according to Sports Direct News.
Arsene Wenger tracked the former Blackburn Rovers man previously and could now look to make the most of the fact that Anzhi owner is looking to conduct a major clear-out to help balance the books.
Samba moved to QPR in a £12.5m switch only to rejoin the Dagestan based side this summer in a £12m deal, now however this source believes an offer of £9m may be enough to see the Gunners land the powerfully built defender.
Though Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny have formed a solid central defensive pairing Wenger may still feel the need to beef up options at the back, especially with Thomas Vermaelen being frozen out of the starting eleven in the final months of 2012/13.
The 29 year old hardly covered himself in glory during his short spell at QPR and Samba was thought to be on a massive £100k a week deal as part of the relegation bound side.
However during his five year spell at Blackburn Rovers the Congo international was an immense presence and Samba may well be keen on a new Premier League challenge.
Arsenal have failed to spend a single penny during the summer transfer window, the only addition to the Emirates Stadium squad coming in the form of free transfer signing of French Under 20 international Yaya Sanogo.
