Overachievers last year, Betis have been handed a more than tricky opening day encounter with Madrid, but they have cause for confidence as they will hope to replicate the form they displayed last season that saw them earn a 7th placed finish.
However, having lost Jose Canas and Alejandro Pozuelo to Swansea, and Beñat Etxeberría to Athletic Bilbao they may be concerned that a good start against Real may be out of the question.
Madrid will be starting fresh this year, though their transfer activity up until date has largely been limited thanks to their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men have opted to take a different route from the one that saw them labelled as Galacticos by signing up three exciting young Spaniards in the shape of Asier Illaramendi, Isco and Dani Carvajal, all of which should be expected to feature during this game at some point.
Now over the disappointment of their Champions League semi final exit to Borussia Dortmund, Madrid will be looking for a positive start in a bid to overthrow the dominance of Barcelona.
