Liverpool are to step up interest in West Brom forward Shane Long according to Sports Direct News.

The 26 year old has refused to sign a new contract and the Baggies are said to be ready to listen to offers of around £10m for the Republic of Ireland international who moved to the Hawthorns in a £4m deal from Reading two years ago.

Long has a year to run on his current contract and seems in no rush to put pen to paper on a new deal, stating;

“We’re still in talks. I still have a year and an option left.

“So I’m concentrating on playing for West Brom this season, we’ll see where the contract talks go in the future.

“I’m still a West Brom player and that’s all I’m looking at now. It’s up to the club and agents to sort out other things and I won’t let it faze me.

“I just keep my eye on the football and let other things take care of themselves.”

Brendan Rodgers brought in Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto to beef up his Liverpool attack and the Northern Irishman also has the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Fabio Borini to call upon, interest in Long could well be in relation to a possible Luis Suarez exit, with the Uruguayan still strongly linked with a departure from the Anfield side.

Long has netted 19 goals in 70 appearances for West Brom.
