With the new Premier League season just days away now is the time to be fine tuning your Premier League Fantasy Football side for the CaughtOffside Fantasy Football league which you can join and even win two tickets to see Barcelona play!

It’s hard to ignore the players that amassed hundreds of points last season but the way to win is to find the bargain gems who could lead your side to glory. It’s the attacking positions where you score the most points on the game so we’re going for a tried and tested 3-4-3 formation for our team as we find the must-have players and bargain buys for your fantasy football side.

Here we have a look at the best player in each position for this season:

Mignolet Liverpool

Goalkeeper: Simon Mignolet – Liverpool – £5.5m

The summer signing from Sunderland has replaced Pepe Reina as number one at Anfield and you can expect him to accrue the points between the sticks for the Merseyside club. With 11 clean sheets at the Stadium of Light he could well improve on his total score of 140 points last term and at £5.5million that certainly represents value for money as look to clock up the clean sheets.

Baines Deal

Defender: Leighton Baines – Everton – £7.5m

The England international may be the most expensive defender in the game at £7.5m but given his 177 points last season it will be very hard not to include the attacking full-back in your side. That’s 25 more points than his closest rival Patrice Evra and for an extra 0.5m he will certainly be worth stretching your budget on. Playing in a watertight Toffees defence that collected an impressive 11 clean sheets Baines does most of his point scoring in attack. He chipped in with five goals and seven assists last year and you can expect him to improve on his total for the upcoming campaign especially if he earns a possible transfer to Old Trafford.

Defender: Nemanja Vidic – Manchester United – £6m

Injured for much of last season with just 1617 minutes under his belt, the talisman in the United defence is back and ready to score points for fun in your fantasy football team. You know that the Red Devils won’t concede many goals and Vidic will pick up clean sheets but he also offers a threat in the attacking third and at £6m he’s well worth thinking about in your defence.

Defender: Javier Garrido – Norwich City – £4.5m

If you are searching for a bargain buy in your defence you should look no further than the Norwich City defender who picked up a respectable 107 points last term but still comes in at £4.5m. Two assists and 10 clean sheets helped him accumulate his score last year and he’s possibly someone to consider on your substitute bench as you try to fit all your big names in your side.

Michu Arsenal

Midfield: Michu – Swansea City – £9m

The Spanish sensation may be down as a midfielder on the game but with 190 points won last season he fully represents value in his £9million price. 18 Premier League goals and three assists helped Michu become fantasy gold last season. He may have increased in value now but there is no reason not to include him in your midfield with another big campaign expected.

Midfield: Nacer Chadli – Tottenham- £7.5m

The versatile 23-year-old Belgian international winger is likely to start on the opposite side to Aaron Lennon in the Spurs midfield and his strength, pace, and ability to take players on could see him quickly establish himself in Andre Villas-Boas starting line-up. It probably depends what happens to Gareth Bale but with Spurs having an interesting set of starting fixtures and the future of the Welsh international still uncertain it may be worth putting the Belgian into your team.

Steven Gerrard

Midfield: Steven Gerrard – Liverpool – £9m

You could opt the Brazilian sensation Coutinho as you look for selections in your fantasy football midfield but the enhanced choice for the same price might just be the veteran Liverpool skipper. Gerrard enjoyed his most productive season since his 216 score during in the 2008/09 finishing last term with a very respectable 185 points. The England international could also see his total improve again given the introduction of the new Premier League Bonus Points System where you can expect Gerrard to pick up important points and he’ll probably play every game.

Wilshere Captain

Midfield: Jack Wilshere – Arsenal – £6.5m

Wilshere is back and on the game he’s only worth £6.5m. An absolute bargain for a gem of a footballer. Although his goal ratio is notably low for such a talented player this is the time for Wilshere to live up to his potential. Performances for England and Arsenal in pre-season show him has a lot to prove so can you expect a big season from the young England international ahead of a possible World Cup with Roy Hodgson’s side.

Stevan Jovetic

Striker: Stevan Jovetic – Manchester City – £9.5m

One of several new options in attack for Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium I think that the Montengro international represents the most exciting for your fantasy football team. He certainly offers the ability to play in a number of positions and this is likely to see him in Pellegrini’s starting line-up. Jovetic has stated he wants to score around 15 goals in his first campaign but his assist ratio will be impressive as it was in Serie A and that should make you consider him for the new season.

Van Persie Goal

Striker: Robin Van Persie – Manchester United – £14m

The premium striker is valued so highly on the game that you’ll probably end up using a majority of your budget on the Dutch international. The real question is, is he worth the premium price? The answer came in his 26 Premier League goals last season plus his incredible 15 assists and his final points tally of 262, fully justifying his massive price. In his final season at Arsenal he scored even more finishing on 30 goals and a grand total of 269 points. Not putting him in your side would be a significant risk especially if he can improve on last season.

Striker: Gerald Deulofeu – Everton – £6m

There was some surprise among those who watch Spanish football when the Barcelona youngster agreed to join Everton on-loan for the season as Roberto Martinez secured one of the most exciting young talents in football albeit just for the season. The quick, skilful forward has been promised game time at Goodison Park, probably on the wing and that should encourage you to include the 19-year-old in your side with a bargain price-tag of just £6million. Especially when you learn that he netted 18 time with nine assists for Barcelona B last term.
