Spurs won’t pay over the odds for Argentine star.
Tottenham are keen to sign Erik Lamela from Roma, but are hoping the Serie A club lower their demands for the Argentine, according to Sports Direct News.
Rumours have emerged over the last few days that Spurs have stepped up their interest in the 21-year-old forward, with a fee of £30million supposedly agreed between the two clubs.
However, it is now believed that Spurs do not want to pay more than £20million for the attacker, as they have already spent big in this summer’s transfer window, with the likes of Roberto Soldado, Paulinho and Etienne Capoue brought in.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas may have more to spend if the club sell star player Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, though they are said to have rejected an opening offer of £86million from the Spanish giants.
The club are determined to hang on to Bale, but are looking into potential replacements if he does move to the Bernabeu, and could also compete with Liverpool for Anzhi Makhachkala forward Willian, also valued at around £30million.
Lamela is one of the top young talents currently playing in Serie A, and has also been linked with Chelsea this summer.
