Willian is set to leave Anzhi Makhachkala this summer after the Russian club placed on their players on the transfer list after their owner scaled his funding of the club.
Liverpool are close to completing the signing of Brazilian midfielder Willian, despite reported interest from Newcastle United, the Daily Mirror reports.
The Magpies entered the race a few days ago, with the clubs director of football Joe Kinnear said to be keen on bringing the Brazilian to St James’s Park.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is desperate for Kinnear to bring in some big names before the transfer window closes and Kinnear is said to looking throughout Europe for quality targets.
However, despite Kinnear’s best efforts, it looks like Liverpool will complete the signing of Willian, with the Reds thought to be close to agreeing a £15 million deal with Anzhi.
Willian is thought to be eager to follow several of his countryman to the Premier League, where the likes of Oscar and David Luiz have flourished.
Several other Brazilians have also moved to the Premier League this summer, including Fernandinho who moved to Manchester City and Paulinho who moved to Tottenham.
It seems that Willian will join them in the Premier League by moving Liverpool although Manchester United and Tottenham may make last minute attempts to sign the player.
