Real Madrid have rejected the chance to sign Monaco striker Falcao, with president Florentino Perez preferring to concentrate on signing Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, Marca reports.

Falcao is actively looking to leave Monaco as he feels he is being let by the clubs regime which is led by millionaire owner Dmitry Rybolevlev.

The club had spent big earlier in the summer on players like Falcao and Joao Moutinho but the French league are determined to make Monaco’s players pay the top rate of tax in France, meaning Falcao’s contract could be cut by half.

At the moment, the clubs foreign players benefit from the special tax free conditions that are applicable in the Principality but that could all change very soon.

Due to this threat, Monaco have had to stop spending as much as they were earlier in the summer and as such, haven’t quite assembled the star studded team that Falcao thought they would.

The striker now wants to leave Monaco before the transfer window closes and Real Madrid were the first club that was offered the chance of signing the Columbian striker.

However, president Florentino Perez rejected the chance to sign Falcao, believing that the clubs attempts at signing Gareth Bale are too far down the line for them to stop now.
