Pablo Osvaldo reveals admiration for Saints boss.
Southampton’s record signing Pablo Osvaldo told Sports Mole that working under Mauricio Pochettino played a big part in his decision to join the club.
The Italy international was one of the most prolific strikers in Serie A last season, scoring 17 goals for Roma and attracting interest from the likes of Tottenham and Inter Milan.
However, he admits he was keen to be reunited with Pochettino, with whom he found some of the best form of his career during his spell in La Liga with Espanyol.
The 27-year-old was confirmed as Southampton’s latest summer signing yesterday, and follows other big-name additions in Dejan Lovren and Victor Wanyama to move to the Saints this summer.
Plenty of optimism will surround the progress of Pochettino’s side now, and Osvaldo is also feeling confident of his ability to flourish in the Premier League under the guidance of the Argentine manager.
“The season and a half that I shared with Mauricio was my best as a footballer,” he said. “I did well playing under him. It’s great to work with Mauricio. He’s a motivator. It feels great to be with someone who fully appreciates how I work.”
Osvaldo will wear the number 17 shirt for his new side, and will be looking to form a lethal strike partnership with last season’s top-scorer Rickie Lambert at St Mary’s.
