Mourinho to raid old club in chase for new striker.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is preparing a raid on his old club Porto in case he fails to land Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, Sports Direct News claims.
The Colombian has attracted a great deal of interest from all around Europe in this summer’s transfer window, after a sensational first season in Portugal, scoring 34 goals in 43 games for Porto.
The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham and Liverpool were said to be monitoring his situation earlier in the summer, though with these clubs all looking elsewhere for attacking talent, Chelsea remain the main contenders for his signature now.
However, Mourinho is still hoping to secure the services of Rooney, his prime target, even though United are determined not to sell the England star to a title rival.
Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, though there may be difficulty in meeting his enormous £300,000-a-week wage demands, and at 32 the former Barcelona man would only represent a short-term solutions to Mourinho’s attacking problems.
The Blues have been in the market for a new striker all summer due to the poor form of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, and Mourinho has admitted he wants more of a killer instinct in front of goal from his side after only beating Hull 2-0 on the opening day of the season.
