Villa defender Ciaran Clark will be available once again having been forced off with a head injury during the side’s midweek encounter with Chelsea, but Nathan Baker remains a doubt with a twisted ankle.

Liverpool could hand a debut to defender Aly Cissokho after he signed on from Spanish side Valencia as Sebastian Coates faces a lengthy lay off with a cruciate injury.

Striker Luis Suarez will still be unavailable as he continues to serve out his ten game ban, but otherwise Liverpool have a full squad to choose from.

Villa will be looking to build on their solid start to the season having disposed of Arsenal on the opening day last weekend and pushing Chelsea to the limit over the course of their narrow defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool attempted more shots on goal than any other Premier League team last weekend (20) so they will be hoping that Villa’s leaky defence will still be as uneasy as it was last season.

Villa won’t take much comfort from the fact that they have only won one of their last 15 home games against Liverpool in the Premier League (W1, D5, L9) since 1998.
