Villa insist Belgian striker is not for sale.
Aston Villa have told Roma that in-demand Belgian striker Christian Benteke is not for sale, according to Sports Direct News.
The Serie A giants have supposedly shown a strong interest in the talented 22-year-old, as they look to bolster their attacking options before the end of the summer to replace some high-profile potential departees.
Benteke has been linked with a number of clubs throughout the summer, after a highly impressive first season in English football last season, with 23 goals in all competitions for Paul Lambert’s side.
The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund were all believed to be in for him earlier in the transfer window, before he committed his future to the club by signing a new four-year contract.
However, Roma are still keen to try their luck for the prolific striker, as they need a replacement upfront for Pablo Osvaldo, who recently joined Premier League side Southampton. Meanwhile, other attacking players such as Erik Lamela and Miralem Pjanic could both be heading for Tottenham.
Roma have already signed Gervinho as a reinforcement from Arsenal this summer, but they look like failing in their pursuit of Benteke for the time being.
