Former Real Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini is monitoring his former charge Iker Casillas as he considers a move for the Spanish international following a less than glorious display from Man City keeper Joe Hart according to Sports Direct News.

England international Hart had a less than spectacular season last term but with no genuine contender to wrestle the Man City starting spot from his grasp the 26 year old continues to be the club’s undisputed number one, however Pellegrini has seemingly set his sights on Casillas as a potential challenger for his position.

A number of sides have taken note of Casillas’s continued presence on the Real Madrid bench and the World Cup winner may not be considering his Bernabeu future.

Last term the 32 year old seemingly fell out with boss Jose Mourinho, who opted to bring in Diego Lopez from Sevilla, and Casillas must have hoped that the Portuguese manager’s departure for Chelsea would lead to a starting eleven recall under Carlo Ancelotti but this has not been forthcoming.

It is more than a tad strange that a player of Casillas’s standing continues to struggle to secure a first team spot, his last La Liga start coming way back in January. We are after all talking about the Spanish national team record cap holder and a player who has amassed over 650 appearances for Los Merengues.

Though leaving his hometown club after 15 seasons in the first team squad would be a real wrench it seems it may be an option Casillas considers if he continues to find himself stuck on the Real Madrid bench.
