Baines wants Everton to negotiate United transfer.
An exclusive in the Independent claims that Everton left-back Leighton Baines has been keen to be allowed to join Manchester United all summer.
The 28-year-old has been the subject of much speculation over the course of this transfer window, along with team-mate Marouane Fellaini, with both being top targets for their former manager David Moyes, now in charge of United.
United have failed with two bids for Baines, and their approach for both him and Fellaini has been slammed as “derisory and insulting” by Everton, as they have fallen way short of the club’s valuation of the players.
Baines has remained quiet throughout the speculation, but it is thought that he is hoping Everton will eventually accept an offer from the Premier League champions and be allowed to make a switch to Old Trafford.
The England international is desperate to play in the Champions League for the first time in his career, and Moyes may try again to prise him away from his old club following this revelation.
The Scot is also expected to continue with his pursuit of Fellaini, with some reports today suggesting progress had been made in landing the Belgian midfielder.
