Part Three: Ten Deals That Could Be Completed Before The Transfer Window Closes

Here are ten more deals that could be completed before the transfer window closes.

Ashley Williams- Swansea City to Arsenal

Williams has been a huge figure for Swansea over the past two seasons, leading the Swans to League Cup glory and a place in the top ten of the Premier League table during the last campaign. His excellent performances for the Welsh club haven’t gone unnoticed and several clubs have been linked with a move for him this summer. The favourites for the defender are thought to be Arsenal, who have reportedly been tracking Williams for most of the past year. Arsene Wenger is keen to bolster his defensive options before the transfer window closes, especially in light of the fact that he maybe without Thomas Vermaelen for a good portion of the beginning of the season.

Swansea desperately want to keep hold of Williams and are playing hardball over the defenders transfer fee. Swansea have made it clear that Arsenal will have to pay £10 million to sign Williams, a price that Wenger is reluctant to pay. However, Williams has said that he would like to move to a big club so that he can test himself in the Champions League. Wenger is also under pressure to sign some players before September 2nd and Williams is a player who would be more than willing to move to the Emirates.

Demba Ba- Chelsea to Newcastle United

Ba’s short career at Chelsea looks to be over already, after only half a year at Stamford Bridge. The striker moved to the Blues in January and although he scored a few spectacular goals for the UEFA Cup winners, he struggled to break into the Blues first team with manager Rafa Benitez preferring to use the unpredictable Fernando Torres as his sole striker. Things haven’t got much better under Chelsea’s new boss Jose Mourinho, who has barely given Ba any game time during the first few games of the season.

With Mourinho set to bring in at least one attacking addition to the club before the transfer window closes, Ba looks set to be surplus to requirements. He has been linked with several different clubs this summer, one of them being his former club Newcastle. Magpies boss Alan Pardew never replaced Ba at St James’s Park and is desperately looking to add a quality striker to his squad before the transfer window closes. That quality striker could be Ba, with reports suggesting Newcastle will try and bring the front-man back to St James’s Park on loan.

Victor Moses- Chelsea to Everton

The winger looks set to be another player who will be having a short spell at Stamford Bridge. Moses joined Chelsea last summer and hoped to break into Roberto Di Matteo’s Champions League winning team. However, he struggled to get into Di Matteo’s team, with the Italian preferring the likes of Eden Hazard on the wing. Moses continued to struggle to play lots of games for the Blues, even when Rafa Benitez replaced Di Matteo. Now Jose Mourinho has been brought in and Moses chances of first team football appear as slim as ever. Chelsea look set to sign Brazilian winger Willian and his arrival looks set to push Moses further down the pecking order.

Moses will have to leave Stamford Bridge in order to find a club where he will get more first team football. He may join up with Roberto Martinez who is now manager at Everton. The pair enjoyed a good relationship together during their time at Wigan and Martinez would probably give Moses plenty of opportunities to shine at Goodison Park, certainly more than he will get at Stamford Bridge this season.

Arda Turan- Atletico Madrid to Arsenal

Turan has been a revelation for Atletico ever since he joined them in 2011. He has played a huge role in the clubs recent success and is considered one of the top play-makers in Europe at the moment. Despite enjoying his time in Spain, the Turkish play-maker is reportedly interested in moving to the Premier League and several English clubs are known to be monitoring his situation at Atletico. Turan only has one year remaining on his contract with the Spanish club, meaning he could leave next year on a free transfer. Unless he signs a new deal, Atletico may have to sell him. He has release clause in his contract of around £29 million but no club is likely to activate that as he is in the final year of his contract.

Arsenal are reportedly very interested in Turkish midfielder and could be preparing a £20 million bid for him. Arsene Wenger is desperate to bolster his side with several quality players before the transfer window closes and could make a bid for the play-maker before September 2nd. Liverpool and Tottenham are also known to be interested in Turan and could join the Gunners in bidding for the Turk.

James McCarthy- Wigan Athletic to Everton

McCarthy was one of Roberto Martinez key men during his time at Wigan. Martinez is known to rate McCarthy and is looking to bring the Irishman to his new club, Everton. Martinez sees McCarthy as a replacement for Marouane Fellaini, who looks set to join Manchester United before the transfer window closes. Reports suggest that the Spaniard will use the transfer fee that Everton receive for the Fellaini deal and spent it on McCarthy. Martinez hopes to be able to lure the Irishman to Goodison Park by offering Wigan £10 million. However, the Latics chairman Dave Whelan has made it clear that the midfielder won’t be allowed to leave for less than £20 million.

Despite Whelan’s stance, Martinez is confident that his £10 million bid will be successful as it would allow Wigan to improve their squad before the transfer window closes. McCarthy would be very interested in joining his former boss at Everton but several other clubs have also been linked with a move for the midfielder, including Tottenham. This means Everton will need to act fast in order to get their man.

Kaka- Real Madrid to Manchester United

The Brazilian was one of the best players in the world when he moved to Real Madrid in 2009 for a then world record fee. That summer, Cristano Ronaldo also moved to Real Madrid and it is fair to say that the Portuguese star has enjoyed a better time at the Santiago Bernabeu than Kaka. The Brazilian struggled with injury initially and now can’t get into the Madrid first team at all. The Spanish giants have several quality play-makers that they can choose from and although Kaka was once one of the best play-maker in the world, he hasn’t shown that form for a number of years. Madrid have tried to sell Kaka for a number of years but have never been able to.

This summer, they may not have a choice as they need to raise funds for their pursuit of Gareth Bale and Luis Suarez. Manchester United are a club who are looking to sign a quality play-maker before the transfer window closes and Real Madrid are reportedly looking to persuade the Red Devils to sign Kaka. The Brazilian would be interested in a move to Old Trafford as it would mean that he could resurrect his career at one of Europe’s top clubs. However, he will have to lower his wage demands before any deal can be completed.

Joey Barton- QPR to Crystal Palace

Barton has been a frustrating figure for many in English football. He possesses some excellent qualities, such as a good work rate and the ability to make others play to their potential. However, Barton has a history of disciplinary problems and this has blighted his career. Barton spent last season on loan at French club Marseille after burning several bridges during his time at QPR. The midfielder is now back at Loftus Road but he looks set to leave before the transfer window closes. The Hoops desperately want to cut their wage bill and feel that selling Barton would be a good opportunity to do that.

Barton also looks like he wants to leave Loftus Road as he isn’t content with life in the Championship. Several Premier League clubs have been linked with Barton, most recently Crystal Palace. The Eagles have lost their opening two Premier League games and manager Ian Holloway is desperate to bring in some quality players before the transfer window closes. Barton has plenty of experience in the Premier League and could be a huge asset to a club fighting for its survival in the top flight.

Diego Capel- Sporting Lisbon to Liverpool

Capel looks set to leave Sporting Lisbon this summer, having tired of playing in the Portuguese League. Reports suggest that the winger is looking to cut his teeth in a move competitive league and he has been linked with a move to the Premier League. Liverpool have long been interested in Capel and they recently sold Stewart Downing, meaning they have a vacant spot on the wing that they need to fill before the transfer window closes. Brendan Rodgers has tried desperately to sign a quality wide player all summer but he may have found his man in Capel, who is an out and out winger.

Capel hasn’t had the best of times at Sporting Lisbon but still possesses several qualities that would make him ideal for the Premier League. He also wouldn’t be too expensive, with Sporting reportedly willing to sell him for only £6 million. However, Liverpool aren’t the only team who interested in signing the winger, with Arsenal also thought to be readying a move for the player.

Julio Cesar- QPR to Arsenal

Cesar was one of QPR’s shining lights last season, making several important saves that kept them in several important games. However, despite Cesar’s efforts, QPR were still relegated from the Premier League. The Brazilian has looked likely to leave Loftus Road all summer, with both QPR and Cesar eager to sever ties. The Hoops are eager to cut their wage bill and would love to get Cesar off their books while the Brazilian doesn’t want to spend a World Cup year playing in English football’s second tier. Cesar has been linked with several clubs all summer, including Napoli and Fiorentina. However, while the Italian clubs interest has faded, Arsenal’s has not.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been monitoring Cesar for most of the past year and the Frenchman is known to want to bring in an experienced goalkeeper before the transfer window closes. Cesar would also be interested in a move to the Emirates as it would mean that he could play Champions League football. The only stumbling block to a potential deal has been Cesar’s reluctance to lower his wage demands. However, Cesar won’t want to be stuck in the Championship for the next few months and may well accept a lower wage in order to complete his move to Arsenal.

Hulk- Zenit St Petersburg to Tottenham

The Brazilian striker surprised most pundits last summer by moving to Zenit. Many expected Hulk to move to one of European football’s biggest clubs but he moved to Russia instead. However, reports suggest his time with Zenit hasn’t been a happy one and has is now looking to move away from Russia. He was linked with a move to Chelsea earlier in the summer but the Blues interest has cooled. Tottenham are now front-runners for the Brazilian’s signature, with manager Andre Villas-Boas keen on being re-united with Hulk.

The pair enjoyed a good relationship during their time together at Porto, where Hulk scored 36 goals in one season under AVB. Spurs hope to sign Hulk before the transfer window closes and are reportedly ready to pay around £30 million to sign the Brazilian. However, Zenit continue to state that Hulk isn’t for sale. The club paid £35 million for the player last summer and certainly don’t want to be selling him for less than they paid for him. However, Spurs are unlikely to pay more than £30 million for him and with the striker wanting to leave Russia, Zenit may not have any other choice but to sell.
