Etihad Stadium side ready to spend big to bring in French international.
Man City are readying a move to sign FC Porto centre-back Eliaquim Mangala according to Sports Direct News.
Injuries to Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic have left Manuel Pellegrini short of options at the back, turning to Javi Garcia to partner Joleon Lescott, and as such the Man City boss is looking to strengthen his Etihad Stadium squad.
Indeed Pellegrini is so keen on the 22 year old French international that he is willing to meet the defender’s £38.5m release clause, which would represent a massive profit for the Primeira Liga title holder’s, who spent £5m to bring in Mangala from Standard Liege a couple of years ago.
Such a move would make Managala the most expensive defender in the history of the game, eclipsing the £35m PSG forked out for Brazilian Thiago Silva, and the fact that FC Porto conceded just 14 goals in 30 domestic league games last term is a testament to his ability.
Money is clearly not much of an issue for Man City and as such a big money move is a distinct possibility but could then lead to highly rated Serbian Nastasic questioning his position at the club having greatly impressed last term.
