The early kick-off in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon has the makings of a thriller as two of English football’s biggest rivals – Liverpool and Manchester United – lock horns at Anfield.
These two are the most successful clubs that English football has seen of course and even though Liverpool haven’t been challenging for major trophies over recent years, the rivalry is still just as strong.
Anfield is going to be rocking for this clash and whenever these two teams lock horns, it is always a special occasion.
The home side have had a good start to the season, winning both of their matches by a goal to nil and Daniel Sturridge has been the man to grab both of the goals.
The England international looks to be in fine form, but he knows he is going to be judged in games such as this one and will be desperate to get himself on the score-sheet. We have seen over recent weeks that Sturridge only needs half a chance to stick the ball in the back of the net and he will be hoping for some top-quality service from the likes of Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho.
When looking at the odds, you can see that the hosts are being tipped as the favourites to come out on top as they are at 13/8, which some might see as a little bit short.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have played some decent football in the league so far, but they were taken to extra-time by Notts County in the Capital One Cup during the week, so there could be some tired bodies on the pitch on Sunday afternoon
With the Anfield crowd behind them though, Liverpool will fancy their chances here.
As for Manchester United, they drew 0-0 with Chelsea last time out and although it wasn’t the best performance from the Red Devils, they did show signs of some good form.
David Moyes knows his men have to improve here to come out on top and when you consider the record he has with Everton at this ground, he is sure to be desperate to take the points and finally beat the Merseyside team on their home soil.
Wayne Rooney looks as though he is going to remain a Manchester United player this season, which is a massive boost for Moyes and the striker can be a key man in this one.
He looked like his side’s best player on Monday evening and at 7/1 to break the deadlock here, Rooney might just be a popular bet.
Also, backing United at 2/1 to come out on top could prove to be decent value, especially if Rooney and Robin van Persie link-up well. There is bags of quality in this side and this is a massive game for the Premier League champions.
It should be a superb 90 minutes of action between these two famous clubs and all of the action gets underway from 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Make sure you don’t miss it.
