Liverpool face a defensive crisis ahead of their early season crunch match with David Moyes’ men, after Kolo Toure and Aly Cissokho were forced off during the Capital One Cup clash with Notts County during the week.
However, fellow defender Martin Skrtel has recovered from a knee problem and should be available but the club will need to put him through a late fitness test whilst keeping an eye on Joe Allen’s hamstring injury.
Manchester United have a near clean bill of health to select from, with Phil Jones thought to have sufficiently recovered enough from a back injury sustained against Chelsea on Monday.
Striker Wayne Rooney could also be in line to keep his starting spot after impressing against the Blues.
The past three encounters between the two sides has ended in a 2-1 scoreline to United, but that won’t stop Liverpool from chasing a third straight victory at the start of the season for the first time since 1994.
Daniel Sturridge has scored eight goals in his last seven league appearances and he will be key to helping them achieve that.
