Chelsea have been linked with a stunning move to sign Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira according to the Daily Mail.

Following the Bernabeu side’s world record purchase of Tottenham winger Gareth Bale it is entirely plausible that the Spanish giants will look to cover the cost of such a move by selling a player or two and this source believes that Jose Mourinho could be set to make a move for the German international.

The battling 26 year old has seen the arrival of Asier Illarramendi potentially affect Khedira’s push for a regular first team spot at Real Madrid and as such could be open to reuniting with his former boss at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed Khedira has started two of Real Madrid’s three La Liga matches thus far this season and been subbed on both occasions and the former Stuttgart man could be the ideal man to help add some steel to the Blues midfield and could be seen as a better option in this regard that the likes of John Obi Mikel, Ramires or Michael Essien.

Jose Mourinho has thus far this summer brought in Marco van Ginkel, Andre Schurrle, Mark Schwarzer, Willian and Christian Atsu and may feel one more addition could further strengthen his Blues squad.

Khedira knows that first team football is crucial to his chances of retaining a pivotal role in Joachim Low’s German national team set-up ahead of the World Cup finals in Brazil next summer and may therefore be tempted by a move to West London.
