The Red Devils are reportedly close to signing Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera but reports suggest that David Moyes also wants Real Madrid’s midfielder Sami Khedira at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have made a stunning £34 million bid for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, the Daily Express reports.
Red Devils boss David Moyes is keen to sign at least two midfielders before the transfer window closes at 11pm, with reports suggesting that his main targets were Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera and Everton’s Marouane Fellaini.
However, it appears that in the final few hours of the transfer window, Moyes has made a bid for Khedira, who was unsettled at the Santiago Bernabeu during the reign of Jose Mourinho.
However, it appears that new boss Carlo Ancelotti wants the German to stay at the club and Madrid have rejected United’s offer.
It is unknown whether United will return with a new bid or whether they will now focus on tieing up deals for Herrera and Fellaini.
Real Madrid completed the signing of Gareth Bale on Sunday for a world record £86 million and have spent most of Monday trying to re-coup some of the money that they spent on the Welshman.
Mesut Ozil looks set to join Arsenal for £42.5 million and Madrid could be tempted to sell Khedira if United make an improved bid.
