Wigan Athletic have signed Manchester United youngster Nick Powell on a season long loan, Wigan’s official website reports.

Powell is thought to be one of the best young players in England at the moment, having signed for Manchester United last summer.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has decided that the attacking midfielder would be better off spending a season away from the club than spending this campaign on the bench at Old Trafford and has agreed to let the 19 year old join Wigan on  loan.

Powell scored his first goal for United in his debut against Wigan last year and he should become a key fixture in Owen Coyle’s side as the Latics try and gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Coyle said: “We’re delighted to welcome Nick to Wigan Athletic, and  thank Manchester United for allowing a player whom they have invested a large  sum of money in and has incredible talent, to join us for the season.

“We’re all excited to be offering him the opportunity to play football  at a high level and for him to continue his development here at the club.”

Powell began his career at Crewe Alexandra and helped the club to win promotion to League 1 in 2012 before moving to Manchester United.
