Spanish youngster happy with current role in Barca team.
Barcelona starlet Cristian Tello says he is not interested in a move to Liverpool, having signed a new five-year contract to stay at the Nou Camp this summer, the Daily Express reports.
Liverpool were said to be closely monitoring Tello’s situation early on in this summer’s transfer window, as the forward had yet to agree terms on a new contract at the Nou Camp, and could have been available for around £8.7m.
It was also thought that the 22-year-old might be allowed to leave Barca on loan, as he has failed to establish himself as a regular starter for the club over the last few seasons.
Arsenal and Tottenham had also been linked with the Spaniard, but he says now that he is happy to have signed a new contract with his boyhood club, saying he always planned to stay there instead of move on.
“I always wanted to stay at Barca,” Tello said.
“The coach has confidence in me, I am content there and ready to play a lot of minutes.
“I feel better than in previous years. I knew that Liverpool were interested in me, but I never planned to leave.”
Liverpool had also been targeting Tello’s team-mate Alexis Sanchez, though he has also opted to stay with the La Liga champions, and the pair will now fight it out with new star signing Neymar for a place in the side this season.
