Liverpool & England Hit By Glen Johnson Injury Setback

Right-back sustained knee-ligament damage against United.

Liverpool and England have suffered a major injury blow after it was revealed that key defender Glen Johnson is likely to be out of action for ten weeks with a knee injury, according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

The attacking right-back suffered the problem while making a crunching tackle on Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra in last Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Premier League champions at Anfield.

Johnson, 29, limped out of that contest and was then seen on crutches after the match, and it has since been confirmed by the Merseyside giants that the full-back has sustained knee ligament damage that will see him ruled out until November at the earliest.

And that news will come as a huge setback to both Reds head coach Brendan Rodgers, as well as his Three Lions counterpart Roy Hodgson, as both men contemplate going into crucial fixtures over the course of the coming months without their first-choice right back to call upon.

Hodgson could even now be without the defender for any possible World Cup playoff that England may find themselves taking part in in November were they not to win their qualifying group.

Meanwhile Rodgers himself will be forced to choose between the inexperienced duo of Andre Wisdom and Martin Kelly to cover for Johnson at Anfied over the next two months.
