A fight preview for the clash between Floyd Mayweather and Saul Alvarez. To watch live click here
The pound for pound king takes on the undefeated hopeful in what could very well be the fight of the year when the pair meet on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Mayweather, 36, will be putting his own undefeated record on the line by going for his 45th consecutive win after disposing of Robert Guerrero in a unanimous decision just four months ago.
But 13 years younger than his opponent, Alvarez could give Mayweather a real run for his money. Bookmakers have made him a much smaller underdog that any boxer Mayweather has fought in recent years – Alvarez is also undefeated in his short career too.
Alvarez probably has a better chance than many of causing an upset as the pair will fight at a catchweight of 152 pounds for the super welterweight title, though Alvarez could be closer to 170 when he actually enters the ring, and his own special blend of speed and size will be something that Mayweather has not faced for quite some time.
Likely to be one of the most profitable fights in the history of boxing – the bout could rake in more money on Pay-Per-View than Mayweather’s fight with Oscar De La Hoya, which brought in 2.4 million buys. Mayweather is guaranteed to make a record $41.5 million on Saturday, and ESPN sources claim that Alvarez’s promotion will earn at least $12 million.
The undercard is Danny Garcia vs. Lucas Matthysse.
